Gelcoat & Fiberglass Technician

The Gelcoat and Fiberglass Technician is responsible for making our boats look their best.  Fiberglass and gelcoat work is one of the most important aspects of a restoration, and we take this very seriously.  Our Gelcoat & Fiberglass Technicians are expected to be capable of taking a faded, scratched, or blistered boat and make it shine like new again.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Marine Gelcoat & Fiberglass Technician to join our crew at our inboard boat restoration facility in Mooresville, NC. The ideal candidate will specialize in the repair, maintenance, and enhancement of boat exteriors using fiberglass, gelcoat, paint, and other related materials. This role requires a keen eye for detail, precision, and a strong commitment to craftsmanship and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Refinish existing gelcoat to like-new condition

  • Wet sand, polish, buff, wax, and otherwise perfect the vessel’s finish.

  • Apply gelcoat to new or repaired fiberglass surfaces.

  • Color-match and mix gelcoat materials to ensure a perfect match.

  • Repair chips, scratches, and other imperfections in the gelcoat.

  • Assess damage to fiberglass structures and components on boats.

  • Perform repairs on fiberglass hulls, decks, and superstructures.

  • Apply fiberglass layers and resin to form strong, seamless surfaces.

Other Requirements:

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

  • Follow all safety guidelines and protocols, particularly when handling hazardous materials.

  • Properly dispose of or recycle materials in accordance with environmental regulations.

  • Work closely with other team members, including other technicians and supervisors.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding project status, challenges, and needs.

  • Provide input on process improvements and best practices in boat repair and refinishing.

  • Help with other vessel restoration tasks as-needed.

Pay Rate: $15 - $35 per hour, depending on experience and quality of work
